ParksWatch became active in Mexico in January 2002 through a partnership with the Mexican NGO Naturalia. Founded in 1990, Naturalia, one of Mexico’s leading conservation organizations, works to preserve the country's fauna, flora, and natural ecosystems. It develops projects aimed at increasing public awareness of Mexico's biodiversity and conservation problems and instigating the participation of the general public to conservation efforts.

The ParksWatch-Naturalia partnership brings together people experienced in both research and advocacy, providing the means to evaluate and publicize the conservation status of Mexico's beleaguered protected areas.

ParksWatch-Mexico is directed by Gerardo Carréon.
